I dont know who these mystical "them" are - but if you mean by "them" the campaign to prevent the vivisection lab being built, then yes i am defending "them".

I reckon they could go for students if they wanted, there's always a group of protesters in the science area that students have to walk past on a daily basis. If they really mean they'll do anything then open assault would be perfectly viable, if pointless (although they don't seem to have a record of doing anything with mcuh of a point so I wouldn't put it past them). I've not met that many hard students here haha, I doubt the average one would be able to beat the shit out of them. I don't know enough about the ALF to say whether they really would go after students, but there are plenty of us about all the time, and I don't think they'd have much trouble targetting colleges either, if that was their aim.

maybe best not to refer to ALF as "they". as far as i know, its a name taken by an affinity group of AR activists when they want to engage in direct action on a campaign. Its a name that comes with some principles and whatever, but i'm pretty sure its not an actual organisation.

So, the use of the name in this particular email can't really be taken to refer to the wider campaign against the vivisection lab or indeed, any other group who uses the ALF moniker in communiques (if you say communique, it makes you feel like a romantic guerilla hero). If i was writing a wanky essay, i'd call it a fallacious metonymy, or something like that.

I may be wrong about these points, having never done any of that sort of thing, its just picked up from reading bits and bobs. maybe JDMF can correct me if i'm wrong.

This is a pretty impressively stupid affinity group though, i'd say they're more than a little bit in love with their own mystique. There's vivisection in my college, and by this logic, i'm liable to get attacked cos i both study and work here. wankers.

To think that anyone in the anarchist movement has any sympathy with these sociopaths makes me slightly ill. Their tone reminds me somewhat of the national front, only knocked up a few gers of blind hatred. What do they think attacking random people associated with the university will achieve? The university is rich and therefore gives not one toss for their average undergraduate, far less their average worker, when there's lucrative drug money to be made by butchering monkeys.

But if they have to kill students, could i ask that they kill only BA students? There's far too many of them in the world today and they piss me off with their self-righteousness and topshop/hippy uniforms.
